Boosting Home Comfort and Cutting Bills: SEAI Announces Increased Grants for Homeowners
Homeowners across Ireland have just received a major boost in support for upgrading the energy performance of their homes. On 27 January 2026, the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) unveiled a new package of increased and expanded grants designed to make energy upgrades more affordable, accessible, and impactful for more households than ever before.
What’s New in the 2026 Grants Package
1. Bigger Grants for Insulation
The grant amounts for cavity wall insulation and attic insulation are being increased from 3 February 2026. These enhancements recognise that construction costs have risen since previous grants were set and help make essential insulation upgrades more cost-effective for families.
2. New Fixed Grant for Heat Pumps
A new fixed-amount grant for complete heat pump system installations. This builds on the existing €6,500 grant and adds support for radiator/pipework upgrades plus a generous renewable heating bonus, bringing the maximum grant to €12,500.
3. Windows and Doors Grants
From 2 March 2026, a new grant will be available to help homeowners install energy-efficient windows and doors. These supports complement insulation upgrades to improve overall home performance and comfort.
4. Support for First Time Buyers
First time buyers of existing homes will now have access to a higher fixed grant for attic insulation, helping them begin their upgrade journey with reduced upfront costs.
5. More Opportunities for Further Wall Insulation
Homeowners who have already done one type of wall insulation (e.g., cavity or internal) can now apply for a second wall insulation measure.
6. Higher Grants for Those on Welfare
A fixed grant amount for attic and cavity insulation specifically for homeowners on qualifying welfare payments, aligning these with the Warmer Homes Scheme eligibility rules.
Who Benefits?
These expanded supports benefit a wide range of homeowners, including:
Private homeowners
First time buyers
Homeowners on qualifying welfare payments
Approved housing bodies and local authorities - with increased grant rates to support deeper retrofits across communities.
Energy upgrades aren’t just about reducing bills, they also improve comfort, reduce carbon emissions and increase property value.
